or are they a seperate, immaterial thing? (substance dualism)
does the brain simply have the properties of both an organ and a mind? (property dualism)
where the fuck do thoughts come from? if you look at a cell, by itself, it can’t think. but when you put billions of them together and then you’ve got electricity coursing through it and you call it a brain, all of a sudden it can think? how does that work?
There was one day that I came to your studio and I sat in the corner and watched you improvise to White Horse by Taylor Swift.
And I got this feeling in my chest that is so hard to explain, probably because I can’t write like you can. But it felt like I was watching something so damn personal, like I was sitting on the edges of a secret world where I could observe but never enter, never touch. Now you might think that this kind of thing would upset me. Not at all. I felt fucking honored.
“In the world the FFA lives in, the existence of a same-sex partnership option for the small percentage of players who choose to pursue it magically invalidates all other available choices or paths, and somehow even starts overwriting gender identities.”
Below I’ll post some of the ‘good’ ones (aka the really bad ones)
“If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual [gay] sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything. Does that undermine the fabric of our society? I would argue yes, it does. It all comes from, I would argue, this right to privacy that doesn’t exist in my opinion in the United States Constitution. In every society, the definition of marriage has not ever to my knowledge included homosexuality. That’s not to pick on homosexuality. It’s not, you know, man on child, man on dog, or whatever the case may be. It is one thing.” ~Rick Santorum, comparing homosexuality to bestiality, and saying that we don’t have the right to have consensual sex. He’s also saying we don’t have the right to privacy.
“There are no Palestinians. All the people who live in the West Bank are Israelis. There are no Palestinians. This is Israeli land.” ~Rick Santorum, falsely claiming that there are no Palestinians living on the West Bank.
“One of the things I will talk about, that no president has talked about before, is I think the dangers of contraception in this country. It’s not okay. It’s a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. [Sex] is supposed to be within marriage. It’s supposed to be for purposes that are yes, conjugal…but also procreative. That’s the perfect way that a sexual union should happen…This is special and it needs to be seen as special.” ~Rick Santorum, opposing contraception and frighteningly suggesting that he would make pre-marital sex illegal.
”I don’t want to make black people’s lives better by giving them other people’s money. I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn their money and provide for themselves and their families. The best way to do that is to get the manufacturing sector of the economy rolling.” ~Rick Santorum, saying that he has no interest in helping the African-American community.
“Suffering, if you’re a Christian, suffering is a part of life. And it’s not a bad thing, it is an essential thing in life … There are all different ways to suffer. One way to suffer is through lack of food and shelter and there’s another way to suffer which is lack of dignity and hope and there’s all sorts of ways that people suffer and it’s not just tangible, it’s also intangible and we have to consider both.” ~Rick Santorum, saying that Americans should suffer because suffering is good.
“The idea that the Crusades and the fight of Christendom against Islam is somehow an aggression on our part is absolutely anti-historical.” ~Rick Santorum, claiming Christians played no role in starting the Crusades.
There are like 20 more shitty quotes from Santorum that you don’t want to read, but those cover his positions pretty accurately.
tl;dr Rick Santorum is a homophobic, racist, sexist piece of shit.
Now, before I get started, I just want to say that I’m willing to admit that I myself have never actually invested time or interest of any significant amount into a political issue/ world crisis/ whatever before. I am willing to admit that the things in my life take a higher priority. And I will probably get burned for that, but i can live with that because at least I’m being honest. One more thing. While I don’t invest time or money into these things, I do keep up with the times.
The thing that pisses me off are the people who pretend. Kony is a bandwagon and the video spread like fucking wildfire. But first of all, the video is inaccurate. Second of all… Since when do any of you (and I’m mainly speaking to my Facebook friends) give a flying fuck? Case in point. War in Darfur, started in 2003. The peace agreement was only signed in 2011. They estimate civilian deaths at anywhere between 300,000 to 330,000. Over a hundred Sudanese police officers were killed. Question, have you guys ever heard about Darfur? No? Okay, I didn’t think so.
Alright, alright, I’m gonna cover all my bases here. This whole Kony thing is a bigger issue because children, especially, are being put in danger. I imagine that could be a possible argument. Children are the future, they’re innocent, easily influenced, vulnerable, that kinda thing. Okay, protect the kids. Got it. Did you know there’s anywhere between 14,500 to 17,500 men, women, AND CHILDREN, are trafficked into the united states alone every year, to be sold as sex slaves? Why don’t you care about those kids? They’re closer to home, too.
Now don’t get me wrong it’s great when people want to do something good for others but honestly please do not pretend that you are an activist because you watched a 30 minute, outdated video which relies more on psychological scenes than on providing information. Question; can you even point out Uganda on the map for me?
